Double Din Car Stereo

Post by Dallas » Thu Jun 07, 2018 6:57 pm

Has anyone manage to fit a double din stereo in their F/TF?

I see from inspecting the centre console that there is sufficient room to install a 2 din size unit, but I dont see any 2 din size fascia surrounds to replace the single din.

I suppose its a case of buying a spare centre console and modding it to fit (loosing the dials), at least this way you still have your original at hand.

The reason I ask is that I bought a 4.1" single din stereo with bluetooth USB etc to fill the gap, but I find it limiting on what it can and cant do. I do have a brand new all singing and dancing android double din with internet, GPS etc sitting doing nothing that I would like to fit, but I dont fancy cutting up my console. :o

Has anyone here actually installed a 2din stereo in their F/TF?

This is the 4.1" single din I'm using for now.

I think there is a guy who makes a replacement centre console to take a double din unit, the oil temp gauge and clock get moved to a lower position

Hi, The switches are already at the lowest point due to the early MK1 not having a cubby hole, just some silly pull down flap which is just above the switches. :?

Thanks fellas ;)

I've been in contact with Paul, some very nice photos I've seen of his work. :o

Regarding the DD console, the consoles are geared-up for the TF rather than the early MK1 F.
It would be a complete heater control, gear surround, button and wire harness change if I were to fit one of Paul's consoles to my MK1 N plate F.
The later F's wouldn't be a problem as they share the more familiar TF console design setup.

I'm actually on the lookout for a TF, I would like one of each (his & hers)... :D

I've seen a handful of F/TF's with double din entertainment systems.

I might just make my own, buy a spare console and use fibreglass to mould the top lip where the dials are/were. ;)

I hadn't seen this one before. Where does the hazard switch re-locate to?

Hi Rob, The clock, oil pressure gauges and the hazard switch are relocated down below the switch panel, just where the cubby hole is normally situated.

If you have an MGF, you'll need to modify the mounting of the heater controls to match the MY2000/TF positioning to use this console - but it looks well designed and made in the pictures. 3D printed?

Since you've so kindly posted a picture which shows it, can anyone tell me what the flap below the heater controls is for?
