Re: TF Race Car Build
Anyway last 2 weekends has seen the double shear coilover brackets completed.
Rears
As you can see, to allow the coilover to sit in its natural position without side loading it a spacer will be needed.
Cut down crush tube from one of the suspension rubbers I replaced with PU 12mm i/d.
Perfect.
All welded up, will need to be cleaned up, the vertical rib rounding off on the ends and painted.
Rears fitted.
Fronts welded up.
Fronts fitted with new 6 x 2.25 " 325lb springs.
Interestingly the actual bracket length is the same F/R, which is why previous use of ProTech coilovers have had issues as the rears have been put at an angle causing problems with the stem tops, I've engineered that problem out.
Also got the hardtop to fit properly by grinding down the hook part the the front attachment down to fit between the roll cage and windscreen frame and cut away the B piller hook mouting point on the roof to clear the cage. Now I've had to remove, I'm not sure yet how to secure it to the car.

Re: TF Race Car Build
Gear shifter/selector bought off ebay to make a short shifter - I've worked out how to modify the counter balance weight to cope with extending the fore/aft part of the mechanism.

Re: TF Race Car Build
Isn't the upper suspension arm cast? How did you find welding it?
Looking good though

Ah!!! I see the bracket runs underneath the upper arm! I couldn't quite make that out!

Re: TF Race Car Build
Short shift fabricated.
It's made it a really short shift, but might have to lose the counter balance or redo the tube that holds it, as it fowls well everything.
May make another one, but slightly shorter tube extension.
Also started work on the passenger side window, making the bracing longer, if it works better I will make a new drivers side window.

Re: TF Race Car Build
Having a look at the MS Slick Shift it doesn't have a counter weight on it, and on the 160 metro race car I removed the weight when I made the short shift.

Re: TF Race Car Build
Well, spotted today I had fitted the short shift gear lever the wrong way round, refitted and now works a treat. Also discovered my pipe flaring kit will do 13mm aluminium tube, putting a bead on the tube, so will be replacing the rubber pipes under the car with 13mm od aluminium tube for the oil cooler.
Also finished the work on the passenger window.

Made blanking for the snorkel and fitted the servo brace.
I've removed the rear brake bias assembly and fitted an adjustable one, run the pipework from the hydraulic handbrake to the bias valve and up to the bulkhead. Just waiting for the brake line bulkhead connector to arrive and can finish off the rear brake plumbing.

Re: TF Race Car Build
Managed at long last the get the B pillar roll cage cross brace made and fitted today and make the tunnel bracket it will bolt to.
Next task will be to drill 2x 8mm holes in the bracket that will be welded to the cds tube, then clamp it in situ drill matching holes in the tunnel section so I can weld captive nuts in, then weld it all in place.
