Re: 1-4Aug'19 MGCC EEOTY Spain, Barcelona
Hi, i think Christine and i will be there and staying by our friends, but the Time for this Event in Spain is crazy.
The Temperatures at this Time are round 40°C and there School Holidays, so the prices are 150%-300% more than 6 Weeks later when its round 30°C there. Barcelona will be full of People and the City is not far from collapsing.
But, the City and the Area is beautiful, interesting, awake 24 hours, the menues are incredible, the Routs are amazing and the People are great.
We will have a very warm welcome. Drive the Coast Roads and enjoy the mediterran flair.
Hope we see us there.
Klaus

Re: 1-4Aug'19 MGCC EEOTY Spain, Barcelona
Upto 40 can happen in Spain but also in Switzerland for this years EOTY. In 2001 when having bought our F whilst living in Basle, I spent 2 hours stopped on the Autoroute at 39. With the hood down, I toasted but with the black softTop I roasted albeit on a lower setting with the Air Con On. I then drove on trips with the Silver HardTop on which effectively reflected the heat. Next year having retired, I drove down to Portugal via the Spanish AutoPista,(Ann took a Fly-Drive to Alicante) taking the Top off for a week on the Costa Brava and at our friends on the Algarve. Why did we carry the SoftTop so far and hardly used it ???. We took it off.British Steel wrote:Hi, i think Christine and i will be there and staying by our friends, but the Time for this Event in Spain is crazy.

We now drive with the HardTop (GT Style), carry a Full Tonneau, 2 large white bath towels to cover the black Oxford leather seats plus a Sunmate Silver Hood Cover (which also covers the windows) for parking in the sun.
My Sunmate was original from the Register Shop however Mike Satur is offering them at £55.

Isn't Barcelona the number one city in Europe that says no to tourists, as they have had enough ?

The event is still available on their website.
If it is the number of participants, a serious lessons learned need to follow as the limitation for the timing has been changed due to this one.

Re: Cancelled 1-4Aug'19 MGCC EEOTY Spain, Barcelona
The information that was released on the MGCC website ...
EEOTY, 2019
It is very much regretted that the EEOTY event due to take place in Barcelona has had to be cancelled. There were simply too few cars/people entered for the event and the Catalunya Club was faced with an unsustainable financial loss. The club did make great efforts to make the event more attractive, but alas the number of entrants needed to make the event a success failed to materialise. I should add that the number of applications from the UK was significantly down on previous years.
In 2020 the EEOTY is to be held in Germany. Let us hope that there will be more support.

Re: Cancelled 1-4Aug'19 MGCC EEOTY Spain, Barcelona
Germany is expected to be a sell out, and quickly. I was with some of the organisers at the weekend
Regarding Spain, personally i think August is the wrong time, peak season, peak costs, peak temperatures and a long long way to go. The itinerary didn't appeal to me much either.

Re: Cancelled 1-4Aug'19 MGCC EEOTY Spain, Barcelona
The amount of teams allowed for Germany is rather large (compared to some other EEOTY's)
And they have a strong program that could appeal to many (incl. a non-driving day)
No fancy OTT expensive experiences boosting the price
Just proper German quality
